If your audio varies in volume, Volume Normalisation helps reduce noticeable jumps between louder and quieter content. This means you spend less time adjusting your volume and enjoy a smoother listening experience.
How Volume Normalisation Works
Volume Normalisation is applied to your station's final audio output.
When enabled, Radio.co dynamically adjusts audio levels in real time by approximately -13dB to help maintain a consistent output volume across all content.
Because it is applied to the final output, Volume Normalisation affects:
Automated playlists
Scheduled content
Live broadcasts
Relay streams
Any audio sent through your station
The adjustment is handled automatically and does not require manual configuration.
Important Considerations
Before enabling Volume Normalisation, keep the following in mind:
The gain level is fixed and cannot be adjusted.
Processing is applied to the final stream output rather than individual audio files.
Live broadcasts are normalised in the same way as automated content.
Volume Normalisation helps create consistency but does not replace proper audio production and mastering.
When Should I Use Volume Normalisation?
Volume Normalisation is useful when your station plays content from multiple sources with inconsistent audio levels.
Common examples include:
Music tracks sourced from different albums or eras
User-generated content
Podcasts from multiple creators
Advertisements supplied by third parties
Stations that switch regularly between automation and live broadcasting
For example, if one song has been mastered significantly louder than the next, Volume Normalisation helps reduce the perceived difference between them, creating a smoother transition for listeners.
How to Enable Volume Normalisation
Log in to your Radio.co dashboard.
Open Settings.
Navigate to Broadcasting.
Enable Volume Normalisation.
Save your changes.
Changes take effect immediately and apply to your station's output.
