Radio.co's new mobile apps support push notifications, meaning you can alert listeners to important events, such as a new live DJ about to start. Read on for more information about how to set this up.

Step 1: Signing in to Firebase

To begin, first you need visit https://console.firebase.google.com/ and make sure you’e logged in to the Google account you set Firebase up with originally.

Step 2: Setting up a Push Notification

Please click on the Project you set up and added Radio.co to as a user.

In the left hand menu click ‘Engage’ then ‘Messaging’.

If this is the first notification sent from this firebase project click ‘Create your first message then 'Firebase Notification messages’.

If you have sent notifications on this project before, click ‘New campaign’ on the top right of the table containing previously set up notifications, then click ‘Notifications’.

Enter your Notification title and Notification text (these will show on the device and you can see the initial view and expanded views on the emulator on the right hand side).

You can also add an image to the notification however this will need to be a link to a public image that is stored online.

Lastly, you can add a notification name if needed.

Once done, click ‘Next’.

In the ‘Target’ section you can choose to send the notification to the iOS app, the Android app or both.

If you want just one app select it from the dropdown next to app.

To do both apps, click ‘Target another app’ then select the other app from the dropdown.

Once you’ve chosen the app(s) to target, click ‘Next’.

In the ‘Scheduling’ section you set when you want the notification to be sent. You can select ‘Now’ which will send the message as soon as you finish in the set up section.

Or if you click ‘Now’ you can then select ‘Scheduled’ and click on the date you want to send the notification. Once you have selected the date you can then choose the time and timezone.

Once your date and time have been set, click ‘Review’ at the bottom right or ‘Next’ if you want to add any optional information in.

Review the information in the pop up modal, if it’s correct click ‘Publish’, if not click ‘Cancel’ to edit anything.

Once published your notification will display in the table.

If the Status is set as ‘Scheduled’ you can make changes to the notification by clicking the three dots on the right hand side of the table. Then clicking Edit.

If you don’t want to send the notification, while it’s still in a ‘Scheduled’ state please click on the three dots as above, then ‘Delete’.

If a notification has been sent and you want to send it again, please click the three dots, then ‘Duplicate’ then follow the flow through again.

If you are rescheduling a lot of notifications, it might be worth exploring the ‘Recurring’ settings in the ‘Scheduling’ section mentioned in Step 7.

We hope this guide has allowed you to successfully set up your Firebase notifications, however if you need further guidance please do contact us at help@radio.co.
